Fresh off of a win at the 2nd Annual DCJazzPrix, our group, AMP Trio featuring Tahira Clayton is preparing to roll out a buffet of new media, singles, videos and upcoming performances. After winning the grand prize of $15,000, promotion in the Sept. 2017 issue of Downbeat Magazine and industry support from the curators of the DCJazzPrix, this quartet hopes to take our new found momentum to the next level of jazz performance. We cannot wait to spread the message about this wonderful art-form and its incredible value to cultures all over the world.
AMP and Tahira have worked together on many projects including the trio’s second album and video series m(y)our world, our pianist, Addison Frei’s albums Intentions and Transit, and our bassist, Perrin Grace’s, EP Nef. With this new project we are very excited to introduce all new songs to the quartet’s repertoire. Look out for the release of new videos and singles in the next few months.
We are excited to spread the message of jazz not only through performance but through education. After holding a US/Sapporo Consulate General sponsored workshop in Japan last summer and we are excited to return to continue to spread the word of jazz to youth across the country. Integrating education into our tours has been not only helpful in getting to the bottom of the richness of this music but has been an uplifting experience for the students and us.
In addition to producing our next wave of material we are incredibly excited to announce upcoming tours and performances. To start, we have a show in New York City on Feb. 10 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center hosted by our partners at the DCJazzPrix. We are also excited for our performance at the Washington D.C. Jazz Festival in mid-June.
